To Trek Or Not to Trek!!!!! June 24, 2009
So, I am far from a Trekki…….but the new Star Trek movie was really good!!! I think even if you aren’t a fan or if you’re not into Sci Fi, you may like this one. Lots of action and a way cuter cast than the originals, after all, that is one of the most important reasons, right??? No, that’s not what makes this film good, although it helps, but it is pretty action packed throughout the entire movie. There is a hint of humor along with some pretty good acting, and the cast is a good likeness to the originals, in my opinion. There’s even a special appearance by …………….., well, you’ll just have to go see it!!!!! Good summer movie, but will it make it to my All Time Summer Movie Favorite Hits List……nah, probably not!!!!

The Hummingbirds are Here!! June 10, 2009
We have several of these mini birds around our house!!! As little as they are, they can get pretty aggressive with each other!! There is something so cool about hearing one approach, almost like a tiny little airplane. Did you know they flap their little wings approx. 10-80 times per second. The average is around 50 times per second, however, the Amethyst Woodstar and Bee Hummingbird are around 80 flaps per second, whew, that’s a lot of flapping for such a tiny creature!!! They can fly up/down, side to side and even backwards and fly up to 60mph!! They must eat on average of every 10 minutes to keep up with their very high metabolism, imagine that!!
They can live up to 6 years and are the smallest birds in the world. If you are lucky enough to have hummingbirds where you live, I hope you enjoy their VERY frequent visits to your feeder or flowers!!! What a great thing to experience!! Kids love to watch them feed!!! I’ll try to get a picture of one at our feeder!!!
Favorite Summertime Movies!!! June 7, 2009
I love movies that come out in the summer season, some go on to be great classics, JAWS was one of my favorites and is still played over and over during the summer months!!! Of course, there are a few other favs of my mine that “don’t” leave me afraid to get in the water, okay, that’s not true, I don’t like getting in the water at the beach, give me a swimming pool anytime!! No sharks, jelly fish or other creatures just waiting to take a bite of ya!!!!
Dirty Dancing is probably my most watched favorite summer movie of all time!!!! A more recent film was “Mama Mia”, I saw that with my mom, it was the perfect summertime chic flic!!!!! Others include Finding Nemo, Blue Crush and Vacation, who doesn’t love the “charming?” Griswolds!!!!!

1 – It takes a loss of only 1% – 2% of your body’s ideal water content to cause dehydration, an average person loses about 90 ounces of water daily..
2 – The sense of thirst dims with age -so make sure older people are drinking plenty of water.
3 – Drinking ice cold water actually makes you lose weight because fat calories are burned to bring the water temperature up to internal 98.6 degrees F. Some people find they have stomach cramps from this, so experiment and see if your body is ok with this.
4 – You MUST remember to drink even when you’re not thirsty.
5 – Drinking enough water is the best treatment for fluid retention. Give your body plenty of water and the stored water will be released.
6 – If you don’t drink enough water, your body’s reaction is to retain the water it does have. This in turn hampers kidney function and waste products accumulate. Okay, one more, for all you party people out there, Hate hangovers from drinking too much alcohol??? Make sure that you drink 4 times as much water as you consume in alcohol. It’ll make the effects of alcohol last longer and cost you less in the long run.
PLEASE NOTE : Drinking coffee after drinking too much alcohol does nothing more than make you a wide-awake drunk.

COFFEE ICE CUBES!! I LOVE Coffee, especially flavored coffee!!! There are times when I really need a cup of coffee before I run out the door but the coffee is still too hot to drink, you know what a disaster that can be while driving!, I, like many people, throw a few ice cubes in to cool it off. When I have leftover brewed coffee, I pour it into ice cube trays and then just plop 1 or 2 frozen coffee cubes into my freshly brewed coffee. It won’t water down your coffee as much as plain old ice cubes, Yey!!!! It also adds a little something extra to regular coffee when you throw a few frozen cubes of flavored coffee in!!!
FROZEN PAINTBRUSH??!! Doing a little painting, maybe a piece of old furniture or even a new deck? Doesn’t matter if the job’s big or small, if you need to take a break, whether if be for a few hours or til the next day, maybe even to do a little online shopping at onlineauction.com, just wrap your brush in tin foil and stick it in your freezer, you can also put it in a plastic baggy after wrapping it in tin foil. The next day or whenever you are ready to paint again, about 5 to 10 minutes before painting, take brush out of freezer to “defrost(soften)” and you are ready to go!! Beats cleaning it a million times for one job!!!! It’s the lazy mans way, but I know I HATE cleaning paint brushes, especially when I’m not finished with the project, works like a charm!!!!

Paintballs, Harmful to dogs??? May 16, 2009
okay, this week our little Yorkie-Poo(approx. 10-11lbs) ate some paintballs that were in my son’s room. Of course I panicked when she came running out of his room, first because it was red paint, and I thought she was bleeding to death, lol!!!! After I realized what it was(mostly by the odor), then I freaked even more because I didn’t know if they are toxic to pets. So I called our vet and had to wait on his call, it was after hours, so I called Poison Control. Thankfully, eating just a few usually isn’t fatal, unless a pet chows down on the whole box, which Poison Control did have a report of.
The worst of the side effects that she had from the paintballs were some vomiting, a little bit of diarrhea and, of course, getting the paint out of her fur! So now you know, if you’re pet eats 1 or 2, it probably won’t kill him/her. A whole box, you’d better start looking for a new best friend!!!! Also, another important thing to look for after they eat paintballs, is dehydration. Eating these makes them VERY thirsty and they can easily dehydrate if not observed for a few hours afterwards. I know she drank a LOT of water after eating them. Best advice, keep the box away from small children and pets!
